The West Lafayette Wellness and Aquatic Center project was a significant undertaking by the city's Parks and Recreation Department as it entailed the construction of a brand-new facility. Williams Creek Management worked alongside 3D Professional Contracting, Inc. for the first time, who proved to be a key partner in this and future projects.
One of the standout features of the project was the implementation of green infrastructure stormwater basins which incorporated a variety of sustainable elements, including the planting of several hundred trees, individual plugs and seeds totaling approximately 60,000, and the use of native species. This approach not only helped to manage stormwater runoff but also enhanced the project's ecological value. The project also included traditional and native landscaping elements that presented a unique challenge, as they needed to be carefully designed to complement the overall aesthetic of the facility. To ensure the protection of the surrounding environment, our team implemented a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to control erosion and stabilize the site during construction.
The soils encountered on the project site posed significant obstacles due to their unknown origin and composition. Despite these challenges, Williams Creek took control of the incoming soils to implement the best possible solutions. Following project completion, Williams Creek provided one year of maintenance and preservation services. This ongoing commitment helped to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of the landscape.
The West Lafayette Wellness and Aquatic Center project was a valuable learning experience for our Installation and Preservation Divisions as it led to a deeper understanding of the client's vision and preferences, as well as the intricacies of large-scale native landscape projects. This experience solidified Williams Creek's reputation as a leading provider of sustainable landscape solutions, paving the way for future projects of similar scale.
