This Ground Line Treatment (GLT) transmission access project spanned two phases, both located in the federally protected Hoosier National Forest in southern Indiana. As part of Duke Energy’s ongoing GLT infrastructure improvements, Williams Creek Management was tasked with managing temporary access across difficult terrain while meeting strict federal standards.
A standout feature of this project was the extensive permitting and coordination with federal agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service. Access approvals and restoration protocols required greater scrutiny than typical right-of-way work, making communication and documentation key to success.
Matting was deployed throughout the forest to minimize ground disturbance, and in one location, the team installed one of Williams Creek’s largest clear span bridges, crossing a 35 foot-wide creek with no impact to the channel or banks. The bridge performed flawlessly during use, enabling safe passage for heavy utility equipment and ensuring the line crew could complete their work without delay.
The project concluded with site restoration per federal requirements, and no issues were reported during or after construction. This effort demonstrates Williams Creek’s expertise and capability to design and deliver infrastructure access in ecologically sensitive and highly regulated landscapes.
