Williams Creek Management partnered with a confidential utility client on the Brookville FIF Pole Culvert Replacement Access Solutions & Sensitive Area SWPPP Management project, a Found in Field (FIF) initiative focused on replacing 12 damaged utility structures along a transmission line in southeastern Indiana. The project site, near the Brookville Reservoir, was known for its extremely challenging terrain, including steep ravines, unstable banks, and sensitive environmental areas managed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). Our role was critical in providing essential access and site restoration while maintaining strict regulatory compliance and managing sensitive landowner expectations.
To enable safe and stable access, Williams Creek implemented a variety of solutions. Our team installed stone and matting, dropped in culverts, and conducted extensive grading to create permanent roads over a 1.9-mile stretch. We performed significant stone stabilization for washed-out ravine bottoms and utilized specialized wetland matting. These measures ensured that the energy provider and line contractor could operate safely and without environmental violations.
Upon project completion, Williams Creek restored a total of 6.8 acres of tillable ground, forest, and native habitat. This included restoring nearly 1.7 acres of IDNR-managed land back to its original state. We also provided specialized restoration, like food plots, to satisfy particular landowners, including an outfitter. Despite the difficult terrain and site conditions that complicated restoration efforts, Williams Creek successfully completed the project on time and reinforced its expertise in complex access creation, erosion control, and navigating sensitive environmental and community interfaces for utility projects.
