This static replacement project at the Home Place Substation required Williams Creek Management to develop a creative access solution in a location with significant limitations. A transmission structure on the rear of the substation site was not accessible through the substation itself, necessitating the construction of a new external access point.
Williams Creek designed and built a gravel access road and ramp, wrapping around the substation to reach the necessary structure without impacting energized infrastructure. The ramp was initially intended to be temporary, but its functionality and low impact led our confidential utility client and the adjacent Carmel Parks Department to request that it remain in place for future access needs.
Coordination with the Parks Department was critical, as the substation sits near Carmel Central Park, a highly trafficked public space. Williams Creek ensured the final product met both utility and municipal standards, balancing durability, safety, and environmental compatibility.
The result was a durable, dual-approved access ramp that has remained in service long after project completion. This work highlights Williams Creek’s ability to engineer practical, lasting access infrastructure in complex, shared-use environments.
