Amos Landfill Wetland

Amos Landfill Stream and Wetland Mitigation

Project Type: Construction Owner: American Electric Power

As part of stream mitigation efforts for impacts at the John Amos Landfill near Nitro, West Virginia, Williams Creek constructed approximately 500 feet of new stream channel and installed vortex weir grade controls along 300 feet of a severely eroding hillside stream. The stream located near the Amos Plant was severely undercut and the flow of the stream was causing flooding when large rain events occurred. Grade controls were installed to stabilize the banks and help facilitate the formation of riffle/pool sequences. A total of 3.5 acres of finish grading was put in along with 300 tons of river rock, and 2,800 square yards of erosion control blankets were installed in the area outside of the riparian zone.
